Futsal Club - Semester 1 Report 2016-17
Saturday 28 January 2017
The University of St Andrews Futsal Club has accomplished a lot this semester, in only the club’s second year running. The club hosted pre-season futsal training, which generated a lot of interest and considering the training sessions were hosted during Freshers’ Week the turnout was surprisingly good. Pre-season training allowed the club to develop a well established 1st Team squad and a Development squad and although only the 1st Team has been entered into competitive BUCS fixtures, friendly games have also been organised for the Development squad allowing them more intense games outside of training times.
Friendlies against Stirling University and various Edinburgh teams have been hosted away in various venues, which have increased our players’ confidence, technique and stamina on the pitch. Friendly games against other university and local teams are very different to friendly games amongst our club members. Our members’ greater confidence and technique can be seen through our improved performance in the BUCS leagues where we have beaten various university teams. Our Coach, an ex-student at the University, has been a great asset to the club this semester and has enhanced our players’ experience in addition to creating a better team atmosphere. Overall, the first semester of our second season running has been very positive indeed with plenty more successes to come in Semester 2.
In addition to competitive and friendly games across Scotland, the club has embraced the natural surroundings within St Andrews by playing beach futsal. Our members had the opportunity to play this great game outside of the Sports Hall arena and show off their skills on the beach.
