Cross Country Club - Semester 1 Report 2016-17
Saturday 28 January 2017
After taking part in seven races and hosting one of our own, Semester 1 for the Cross Country Club has been a very busy one! This semester really showed the progression and improvement of our members from second, third and fourth years, along with the emergence of some really promising new members.
The year started with the club hosting our annual ‘Chariots of Fire’ 5km fun run along West Sands beach. Three universities from across Scotland came to take part, along with many students from our own university. Some race highlights from last Semester include Andrew Taylor coming in the Giffordtown 5km and Andrew Mitchell coming 20th in the Braids Hill Race. Additionally, we were proud to be able to enter five teams into the Allan Scallys Road Relays, a record turnout for a race, and a representation of our growing amount of racing members.
We’ve welcomed many new members this year that haven’t necessarily had a running background in the past, and we believe the extra effort we have put into catering for both racing and more novice members has led to us having a diverse turnout at every training session.
As with every semester we had a few injuries with members so we’ve been developing an injury prevention programme, of which this semester has involved injury prevention screening sessions with a physiotherapist, and an injury prevention stretching session. We hope to develop this over the next semester.
