Boat Club - Semester 1 Report 2016-17
Saturday 28 January 2017
After finishing last year with a strong performance at Henley, the Boat Club has had a productive first semester. We have established a new home at Loch Ore, after moving from Perth at the start of the year. This new location has allowed us reliable training conditions and better facilities. We saw our first and only competition of the semester in November in Aberdeen. Our Men’s 4+ and Novice Women’s 4+ placed first in their respective categories with strong finished from our other crews. Overall, the race showed promise for our upcoming semester of racing.
We held our annual 24-hour charity Erg-a-Thon in Freshers’ Week raising £2350 for the wonderful Maggie’s Care Centres. We continued our Schools’ rowing programme each Thursday sharing our love of the sport with the community. We welcomed our founder, John Browne, in November to a boat naming ceremony in his honour. It was a wonderful experience for our members to hear about our history and John’s experience. We christened two boats, a 4x/- Catalyst, donated by John, and a 2x-, named John Browne.
We have had a successful semester, but are looking forward to starting off the New Year at our training camp in Lovere, Italy.
