Boase Quaich 2011

Tuesday 05 April 2011

The Boase Quaich is the matchplay trophy of the University of St Andrews Staff Golf Club first played for in 1936. Unfortunately since Martin Farrally retired a couple of years ago no-one has taken over as organiser and therefore without anyone to run the club the competition has not been played during the last 2 years. If anyone is interested in taking over the running of the club please let Graham Miller at know.

In the meantime after making some enquiries it looks like there is enough interest and we do plan to run the competition this year. Previously it was a requirement to be a member of the 'St Andrews University Staff Golf Club', but I don't feel this is really necessary.

Matchplay knock-out, with each round to be played during an approx. 4 week time scale over the summer.
The top name in the draw has choice of course. Any of the St Andrews courses have previously been deemed acceptable, excluding the Balgove, or any local course if staff have membership there.

It is intended as a social game and as such I feel it would be unreasonable to expect anyone to have to pay full green fees which can be very expensive (even a round on the Eden course costs £40 over the summer without any concessions). Therefore for those with links tickets, I would encourage you to use your concession points if necessary. Similarly, members of courses outside St Andrews would be expected to use their guest tickets.

Everyone welcome! If you do not have a handicap, the organizer will allocate one after consultation with those who know about these things. Not for complete hackers, you should be able to score under 100 (for 18 holes!).

If anyone is interested in playing please let me know by 17th April by emailing Graham Miller at
