Rifle club Glasgow Grand Prix success

This season’s wins have come already in the form of the highly competitive SUS Grand Prix series, where we compete against teams from other Scottish Universities, who all take it in turns to host a match.

The SUS Glasgow Grand Prix, held on 19th February saw Club Captain Guy Hart and Vice-Captain Rory McAlpine come 2nd in the pairs competition with a score of 386 out of a possible 400. They equalled the winning Edinburgh pair with points, coming second on count back.

Rifle club

McAlpine's impressive performance on the day was got him 1st place in the individual competition, raising the bar for the rest of the SUS shooters to try and catch up.

The club sent a squad of 15 and came 1st in the main team events. The 1st VI won with a score of 1147 out of a possible 1200 and consisted of Rory McAlpine (197), Maddie Emms(192), Alex Bryson (192), Lewis Downie (191), Guy Hart (189) and Adam Moran (186).

The 1st IV beat Edinburgh by 6 points with a score of 769/800 to win their category. The team was McAlpine(197), Emms (192), Downie(191), Hart(189).

The Ladies Triad came 2nd in a very competitive category and was helped by some solid shooting from Natalia Kovaleva (186/200), Alexandra Plutshack and Maddie Emms.

Alina Popa came 3rd in the Novice category with a score of 183, which was a great start to her shooting career.

The club captain, Guy Hart, was pleased to see the teams' commitment to training being rewarded with winning scores, saying that "It was great to see so many club novices getting involved in away matches."

Youth Commonwealth Games Medalist and Vice-captain McAlpine said: "It was a great day for the club. Everyone shot well under match conditions individually and within the teams. How do I get involved?

The club trains 3 days a week (2-5pm Wednesday, 7-10pm Thursday, 2-5pm Sunday) in a central St Andrews location. Beginners and experienced shots are welcome to join throughout the semester. Please contact Rifle@saints-sport.com for further information.
