Athlete of the month
Wednesday 02 March 2011
On the first weekend of February, teams from all over the world gathered in Apeldorn, Holland, to participate in the Korfball Youth World Cup.
Andrew Hall, a fourth year student here at St Andrews, reading Sustainable Development, represented the U23 England team, bringing back 3rd place.
Andrew Hall started Korfball in his first year, and was attracted to the sport due to his interest in basketball. The Dutch word ‘korf’ actually means basket, so korfball is indeed Holland’s variant of basketball. Now, after four years at the university, Andrew is still playing Korfball and is club president of Basketball.
As Andrew prepares to conclude his studies at St Andrews, he is hoping to continue training with England’s senior squad and hopes to be able to compete for them sometime in the very near future.
Andrew will be representing St Andrews in Nottingham next weekend and the UK University Korfball Nationals, so best of luck to him and the team.
