At the University of St Andrews we offer undergraduate, taught postgraduate and PhD programmes in Sustainable Development.

In 2008, the UK’s Higher Education Academy (hea academy website) conducted a survey on the provision of education for sustainable development in Scotland’s Higher Education Institutes. The University of St Andrews took part in that survey and was featured as a case study.  The full report on the findings from the survey can be found in the (2008 Review of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) (PDF, 300 KB)in Higher Education in Scotland.

The report contained some strong praise for St Andrews and to save you the trouble of reading the whole report, the University of St Andrews undergraduate sustainable development programme (we had not launched the masters yet) was described as ‘pioneering,’ ‘the epistemological challenges of interdisciplinarity are embedded in the programme design,’ ‘the programme is exemplary in design,’ ‘it stands as a model of innovative practice that can be promoted as such at international level.’ We thought these comments were pretty good and they made us smile J

Also the things we were doing then, we are still doing and we think we are doing them even better now and not only that we now also offer an MSc in Sustainable Development (since 2009).  If you would like to find out more about the sustainable development teaching we offer, please click on the links on the left.
