My current research focuses on the evolution of cumulative culture, specifically the role that innovation and behavioural flexibility play within this process. Supervised by Prof Andrew Whiten, I am investigating these processes by providing artificial, tool-based foraging tasks to both chimpanzees and young children. I am particularly interested in whether, having discovered one solution to a problem, chimpanzees and children are able to then learn more rewarding, novel solutions.

My PhD is funded by the John Templeton Foundation and part of a larger project directed by Prof Andrew Whiten and Prof Kevin Laland, investigating the evolution of cumulative culture.
