Full research profile

I obtained my undergraduate degree in Psychology, Sociology and Philosophy from the University of Sunderland. I then worked in Mental Health as a Rehabilitation Officer before taking up a post as a temporary lecturer at Sunderland whilst doing research in Anti-Racism. I came to St. Andrews in 1992 as a research fellow and was promoted to Principal Teaching Fellow in 2006.

Research overview

My main interests are in teaching research methods, theoretical issues in psychology, and in providing learning opportunities for skills development for undergraduate psychology students. I also have an interest in the development of critical reasoning skills. Outside of my formal teaching I spend a great deal of time with young people and other groups talking about the role of science in everyday life both the University and various science festivals.
