School gains Athena SWAN Silver award

Thursday 05 July 2018

The School is delighted to announce that its application for an Athena SWAN Silver Award has been successful. The Athena SWAN charter encourages and recognises commitment to advancing gender equality in higher education settings.

Our Silver award application, led by Dr Gillian Brown, was submitted in November 2017 and reflects the efforts of the School’s Equality and Diversity Committee, which consists of representatives from academic and professional staff, and postgraduate and undergraduate students.

The award required the Committee to examine quantitative and qualitative data from the School, evaluate our strengths and weakness, describe the practical changes that we have implemented, and devise future actions to ensure that the School is a fair and inclusive environment for all.

Thank you to everyone involved in the application process, including respondents to questionnaires. The University was also successful in renewing its Bronze Athena SWAN award this year, and the School of Biology also obtained a Silver award during the same application round.
