Volunteer Zambia: Education

Volunteer Zambia: Education is a partnership between the University of St Andrews and the Zambian Non-Government Organisation, Sport In Action. The project involves University staff and students living and working for 6 weeks each summer in Kazemba - a rural Zambian village - to help staff and pupils at the local school, and the wider village community, with literacy skills.

This life-changing opportunity offers experience in:

  • Teaching: including literacy, games and music
  • Fundraising;
  • International Development and Healthcare;
  • Journalism and Reporting;
  • Project Management, and more…

Eligibility requirements:

  • Students must be registered on a St Andrews degree programme which involves at least one further academic year of study;
  • Students must raise approximately £2,000 in order to be allowed to participate. The exact amount will be confirmed when students are offered a place;
  • Students must commit to attending pre-departure mentoring meetings and training. Full details will be provided to students with their offer of a place.

“Without a doubt, being part of Project Zambia was one of the highlights of my time at St Andrews. I feel so grateful to have been able to meet wonderful people, to see their beautiful country and to have learnt so much from them. The friends that we made, both within the team and with our students, neighbours and colleagues in Zambia, are what made the project so amazing" Jenny, Student Volunteer.
