Programme specifications

Programme Specifications contain brief descriptions of the aims, learning outcomes and Teaching, Learning and Assessment strategies for all of the University’s degree programmes at undergraduate and taught postgraduate level. Examples of ways in which these aims, outcomes and strategies may be demonstrated and achieved are also included.

Programme Specifications may be updated annually or as and when programme amendments are approved by Faculty Executive Groups (FEGs).

The Programme Specifications follow a template agreed by the Vice Principal of Learning and Teaching. This template consists of the following sections:

  • Statutory and HEAR-related data
  • Educational aims of programme
  • Programme outcomes / Graduate attributes
    • Intellectual skills and attributes
    • Transferable skills
    • Professional / subject-specific / practical skills
  • Teaching, Learning and Assessment strategies
    • Teaching and Learning
    • Material submitted for assessment
  • Learning and Teaching support
  • Programme structure
  • Distinctive programme features

At undergraduate level the Programme Specifications have a close affinity with the UCAS Entry Profiles which are maintained by Admissions.
