Celebrating ten years of apprentices

Apprentices past and present gathered in Upper College Hall last week (30 August 2017) to celebrate a decade of apprenticeships in Estates.

Assistant Director of Estates Helen Mackie welcomed representatives from Fife Council, Madras College and Elmwood College, senior Estates managers and foremen, along with 18 former and current apprentices to an event to mark the ten-year anniversary of the initiative.

Estates Director Mark Simpson spoke of the “vitality and enthusiasm” that apprentices over the years had brought to the Estates team. “The University gets as much out of our apprentices as we get from them,” he said.

Over the last ten years a total of 36 apprentices have been recruited by the Estates department. Many have gone on to forge successful careers in their respective disciplines either within the University or with local employers.
