Graduating students win international prizes for project work
Recent graduate Tiffany Harte has won first prize in the "Undergraduate Award" Mathematics and Physical Science" international category. Lizzie Cooke was highly commended.
Undergrad Summer Research Internships Celebrated
The University today held a poster session and reception to celebrate the work of undergraduate student summer research internships. The joint second prizes for the poster competion were won by students from our School.
Fourth Year Student Patrick Olden Wins International Science Writing Prize
Congratulations to fourth year astrophysics student Patrick Olden, whose essay "How can we know the complex?" has won second prize in the New Cosmic Frontiers International Science Essay Competition on the Nature of our Universe and its Habitats.
Prof Dholakia an "Outstanding Reviewer"
The Optical Society of America has recognised Prof Dholakia as one of 20 outstanding referees for their journals for 2012.
Breakthrough in using an optical fibre to image inside a body
Scientists at the University of St Andrews have made a breakthrough in fibre optic research which could allow doctors to see inside some of the hardest to reach parts of the human body with imaging devices no thicker than a human hair.

Particle Physics Public Event
The research Summer School being held in our building, organised from the University of Edinburgh, is running a public lecture and set of displays on the evening of 29 August.
