Philosophy at St Andrews

Research funding success

Congratulations to Theron Pummer and Derek Ballon their recent successful funding applications.

Theron has been offered a one-year teaching buy-out by the Centre for Effective Altruism. This will enable him to pursue various writing projects, while remaining resident in the St Andrews area and continuing his work with CEPPA. He will take up the award in September 2018.

Derek is the Principal Investigator on a £50k AHRC Follow-On for Impact and Engagement grant (intended to generate impact from research previously funded by the AHRC). Together with colleagues in Psychology he will be working with schools in Fife and the Highlands to develop materials to teach primary school pupils about philosophy and psychology related to animal and infant minds. They will also be running teacher training workshops and running some courses on this material in prison learning centres.
