PhD Studentship in the Philosophy of Creativity

The Departments of Philosophy have funding to cover the cost of fees (Home/ EU students) and maintainance (Home students) for up to three years for a PhD in the Philosophy of Creativity, to begin in late September 2011. Applicants must be UK or EU nationals and should hold a Masters degree or equivalent in Philosophy.

The studentship is part of a larger initiative of the University's Institute for Capitalising on Creativity to conduct research into the Creative Industries of Scotland. Funding for the post is provided by the Economic & Social Research Council.

Topics that could be covered by the research include, but are not limited to: the concept of creativity; the nature of the creative process; the relationship of creativity to imagination; its relationship to rationality; whether it is a kind of virtue; whether it can be taught; and the philosophical presuppositions of psychological theories of creativity.
