Masters students and doctoral students have access to free, comprehensive training programmes to support their academic, professional, and personal development.

The University is also a member of Vitae – giving doctoral students free access to Vitae online resources.
Alongside these programmes CAPOD provide workshops, resources, and one-to-one sessions for postgraduates wanting to develop their general academic competencies. This includes:
- general academic study skills support for postgraduates
- maths and statistics support service for Masters students
The ability to speak another language helps postgraduates to stand out in a global workforce. The University offers evening language courses throughout the academic year giving postgraduates the opportunity to learn another language, enhance their employability, and make new friends.
Available languages include Chinese (Mandarin), German, Italian, Japanese, and Spanish. Courses are avilable for students at all levels of study, from beginners to advanced learners. A fee is payable for evening language courses and courses may not be used as credit towards a degree programme.
