Arriving at Edinburgh airport

If you have flown into Edinburgh airport, there are a number of ways in which you can travel on to St Andrews.

Shuttles to St Andrews

A variety of companies offer shared shuttle rides from local airports to St Andrews. For more information please search for providers online or contact the tourist office in St Andrews.

Public transport

From Edinburgh airport, take the Airlink (Service 100) bus which departs from directly outside domestic arrivals. You can buy tickets at the Airlink kiosk, on board the bus, or in advance at the Lothian Buses website. Your journey will take around 30 minutes to Waverley Bridge in the city centre. Airlink buses run 24 hours a day.

On arriving at Waverley Bridge, proceed to Edinburgh Waverley train station and board a train to Dundee, Aberdeen or Dyce. This train will stop at Leuchars station. Train tickets can be purchased at the station’s ticket office or from a machine on the station concourse.

Alternatively, at the airport you can get a tram to Haymarket station. Trams run every 8 to 12 minutes and take 35 minutes. You can then board a train to Dundee, Aberdeen or Dyce, which will also stop at Leuchars station.

Another option is to take the 747 Airport bus from Stance G outside the airport to Halbeath Park and Ride (operated by Stagecoach buses and running every half hour), and then transfer to the Stagecoach X24 or X59 bus to St Andrews. It normally takes no more than two hours.

Arriving at Leuchars train station

From Leuchars station, you can either take a bus to St Andrews bus station, or a taxi directly to your destination. The number 99 bus runs every 15 minutes between Leuchars and St Andrews bus station. Taxis are often waiting at Leuchars station during busy periods, but may not be there very early in the morning or late at night.

Late arrivals

If your flight arrives so late that you cannot get the last train to Leuchars, we suggest that you stay in Edinburgh overnight, either at one of the airport hotels or in the city centre. Please make your way to the airport information desk located in the international arrivals hall for local accommodation. There are two airport hotels: Holiday Inn Express and the Hilton Hotel.

Alternatively you could take a taxi from the airport to your halls of residence. A taxi from Edinburgh Airport to St Andrews costs approximately £80.
