Douglas Gifford Scholarship

For a student to direct St Leonard's Chapel Choir

The Douglas Gifford Scholar conducts the St Leonard's Chapel Choir. It is the duty of the scholar, in consultation with the University Organist, to organise and rehearse the choir, to oversee the singing of Compline each week, and to provide music for the annual St Leonard's Day service and such other services and concerts as may occur from time to time.

Rev Douglas Gifford was a Professor of Spanish in the University, was the founder, and for many years the director, of the University Renaissance Group, and was the founder of the St Leonard's Chapel Compline Choir. This scholarship has been established by donations from friends and alumni made in his memory.

The scholarship carries an emolument of £300 and free music tuition in the Music Centre.  The new scholar is appointed at the end of each academic year.  For further information please contact Tom Wilkinson.
