Dalcroze Taster Day with Monica Wilkinson

Sunday 28 April, 1100-1600, Younger Hall

Full price £30, students £10. Places limited: please book online here.

Dalcroze Eurhythmics is a form of musicianship training through movement, aural training and improvisation.  It leads to an embodied understanding of musical concepts by making links between body, mind and expression. Classes are active, engaging and great fun.  This Taster Day for adults will provide an introduction to the basic principles of the method, and explore a short piece of repertoire.  Expect to move, sing, react to what you hear and what others do, and be creative.  Bring clothes you can move in, and if you don’t want to work in bare feet, soft dance shoes or non-slip socks.

The day will be of interest to performing and teaching musicians, amateur and professional, and music lovers who would like to understand more clearly how music works.  In many cultures, music and dance are regarded as being the same thing.  Attendees will leave with a deeper connection to the root of all our musicianship, their body.

Monica Wilkinson (Dalcroze Licenciate) is Lecturer in Dalcroze Studies at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, and leads workshops thoughout Scotland and beyond. For more information about Dalcroze and Monica's work, please see her website at

There will be tea/coffee available during registration from 1030.  We will work 1100 until 1300, then 1400 - 1600.  There are many cafés close to Younger Hall for lunch.
