Research and Teaching

Robin MacKenzie started academic life as a Proustian, producing a monograph on the notion of the unconscious in À la recherche du temps perdu and a number of articles on various aspects of Proust’s writing (including a comparative essay on Proust and Robert Louis Stevenson). He has also published articles on Mérimée, Fromentin and Gracq, and on the contemporary Scottish writer, Christopher Whyte. He has a long-standing interest in comparative literature and is currently a member of the Executive Committee of the British Comparative Literature Association. He has taught widely across the spectrum of French language, literature and culture in three British universities (Swansea, Edinburgh and St Andrews) and has contributed to various Comparative Literature modules at St Andrews.
