Education and experience

Danielle Berrow graduated with an MA (Hons) in French and Spanish from the University of St Andrews in 2009 and is currently a second year research student in the School of Modern Languages. Following her undergraduate degree, Danielle spent a year working as a data analyst for the Civil Service, a year working as a language specialist for a global company and has now returned to St Andrews to embark upon a PhD in late eighteenth and early nineteenth-century French literature. Her research explores codes of conduct in eighteenth-century France, in particular, in the work of Madame de Genlis. Her thesis will examine the extent to which precepts and guidelines found in Madame de Genlis’s practical texts are incorporated in and serve to develop plot and strengthen the message in her works of children’s literature.

Danielle is a recipient of the Sévigné Scholarship and is the Association Postgraduate President (2012 – 2013) at the University.
