French Second Level Modules

At Second level there are six, ten-credit modules (see below) :

For Single and Joint Honours (except Classics) students :

At least 40 credits in FR2000-level modules (must include FR2201 and FR2202) with an average of grade 11 or better in all FR modules taken. You may, and we would recommend that, you take 60 credits.

For Joint Classics, Triple-subject and Science (“with”) students :

40 credits in FR2000-level modules (must include FR2201 and FR2202) with an average of grade 11 or better in all FR modules taken.

These modules include French language (2201 & 2202), civilisation (2203 & 2204) and literature (2205 & 2206), taught in French.

Our French Civilisation modules chart the story of France from the Middle Ages up to the present day, providing a panoramic survey of major events and of the development of French government and identity.

The French Literature modules offer a survey of texts from the mediaeval to the contemporary.

This integrated study of French language, culture and identity therefore provides you with knowledge that will help you understand many of the issues you may meet during a year in France, and allows you to make an informed choice from among our Honours modules, many of which develop at greater depth topics touched on during the second year.

Please be aware that module details are only correct for the current academic session and may change from one year to the next.
