Associate Professor Amie Steel visit welcomed

20 May 2024

The University of St Andrews Business School Department of Management has welcomed Associate Professor Amie Steel as a visiting scholar during May 2024. Amie Steel, an Associate Professor in Public Health from the Australian Research Consortium in Complementary and Integrative Medicine at the University of Technology Sydney, will collaborate with faculty members and present her innovative research.

Steel's research focuses on the translation and mobilisation of knowledge in traditional, complementary and integrative medicine. During her visit, she will be working closely with Dr Vicki Ward to advance ongoing projects that explore the utilisation of knowledge in clinical decision-making within traditional medicine professions, including naturopathy, acupuncture and osteopathy.

In addition to her collaborative research, Amie will present the Contemporary Implementation of Traditional Knowledge and Evidence (CITE) framework to the Knowledge and Practice thematic research group. This framework aims to bridge the gap between traditional knowledge and contemporary clinical practice, providing a structured approach for identifying, adapting and implementing traditional medicine knowledge in various domains including research, education, policy and clinical practice.

Amie's interest in knowledge mobilisation is driven by the need to offer clear guidance on integrating traditional knowledge into modern health systems. Her work addresses the global call for the incorporation of traditional medicine practices and products into health policies and systems, acknowledging their significance and potential benefits in the global health landscape.

Amie's visit is anticipated to significantly contribute to the field of complementary and integrative medicine, fostering international collaboration and enhancing the understanding and application of traditional medical knowledge in contemporary health care.
