Donaldson Collection now on SAULCAT

The Donaldson collection was the bequest of Sir James Donaldson (1831-1915), Principal of the United College in St Andrews from 1886, becoming the first Principal of the whole University from 1890, the office he held until his death. The collection consists of around 9000 books, including two incunabula and 75 books from the 16th century.
The topics covered include philosophy, religion, the classics (especially), theology and church history, administration of universities and education. A large number are in Latin and Greek. Special Collections also holds the papers of Principal Donaldson in the manuscript collection.

This beautiful folio from the Donaldson Collection is full of decorations, and the portrait of Justin Martyr evokes strong feelings because of its realism. (Don f BR65.J8A1C86).
