Explore Your Archive Campaign

Friday 20 November 2015

This week we've been taking part in Explore Your Archive, a joint campaign delivered by The National Archives and the Archives and Records Association across the UK and Ireland.

We’ve explored our archive through a 17th century shipping journal blog, looking at the travels of local Skipper Alexander Gillespie, who sailed out of Elie in Fife in the mid-17th century.

We've also used Special Collections material for an Art History methods class, teaching students how to identify the challenges involved with using archival sources:

Our regular Medieval Paleography class studied some of the first Scottish documents, including copies of leaves from the Book of Dier:

Our Rare Books team hosted an incunabula workshop:

... and we've contributed to the twitter hashtags #explorearchives and #archiveanimals - we look forward to taking part again next year!
