The Istvan Hont Bequest

Friday 13 February 2015

The Library recently received the bequest of the books and archive of Istvan Hont, (1947-2013), intellectual historian and fellow of King’s College, Cambridge. It was his long-standing connection with Professor Richard Whatmore of the Institute of Intellectual History here in St Andrews which determined the destination of Hont’s work.  The fine collection of modern books will be available in the Main Library, while the archive is now in Special Collections. This prestigious collection, which consists of more than 100 boxes of research papers, correspondence and articles, is being catalogued by MLitt student Sam Walton, seen here hard at work with some of the archival papers.
