Images of the Shewan Collection

The collection was presented in 1936 by Dr Alexander Shewan, Indian Civil Service and independent Homeric scholar. The collection contains around 5000 pamphlets (including printed dissertations, articles, notes, and reviews) uniformly bound in 250 volumes, in the field of Homeric studies, mostly 19th century.

Finding aids

The Shewan collection has been fully catalogued by Lighting the Past and is available here via the online catalogue. There is also a manuscript list by subject compiled by Dr Shewan. Classmarks for books in this collection have the prefix She.
