Finzi Collection

Images of the Finzi Collection

Purchased 1966 from the library of the English composer Gerald Finzi (1901-1956), it consists of c. 700 volumes, chiefly instrumental and vocal music of 18th century English composers in 18th century printed scores, with around 30 books (mostly 18th century) about music and also c. 100 manuscripts of 18th century English music in 20th century hands.

Finding aids

There is a published catalogue of the collection, by Professor Cedric Thorpe Davie, available for download: Finzi catalogue (PDF, 4,510 KB)

There is also a card catalogue of music available within the Library.

Classmarks for books in this collection have the prefix Fin, and all books from this collection currently on the online catalogue can be found here.

Thanks to the assistance of the Gerald Finzi Trust, we have been able to digitise a selection Finzi papers - this selection comprises most of the manuscripts of 18th century music in 20th century hands. They can be viewed online here.
