Images of the D. E. R Watt collection

Emeritus Professor of Medieval History in the University of St Andrews, Watt spent his whole career at St Andrews in the department of Mediaeval History as an ecclesiastical historian. Born in Aberdeen and educated there and in Oxford, he specialised in Scottish and ecclesiastical history. He was joint editor of the Scottish Historical Review, and editor of a new edition of Walter Bower’s 15th century Scotichronicon, finally published in 9 volumes over 10 years from 1987.

Most of the papers concern the editing of the Scotichronicon, with copies of various versions of the text, notes, files of research and critical analysis, lectures and correspondence.
