Joining the Library
You are automatically given Library membership through you University ID card.
What you can borrow and access:
Staff: 50 items and online resources*
Postgraduates: 40 items and online resources
Undergraduates: 25 items and online resources
Retired staff: 30 items **
*This includes honorary and emeritus staff who also have full library membership including access to electronic resources and Inter-Library Loans.
**Retired staff are not automatically given Library membership - they must request this via HR. Retired staff are not eligible to access our electronic resources as our license agreements only cover current staff and students of the institution. They also do not have access to our Inter-Library Loan service.
If you'd like to use the Library but not borrow, you can do this without any charge. Please register at the Welcome Desk (ID, as below, is still required).
If you would like to borrow, we charge £30 each year and this allows you up to 10 items (but no access to online resources).
Graduates of the University of St Andrews can join with the same access, but pay a reduced charge of £20 each year.
To join the Library please bring photographic ID (e.g. Driver’s License) as well as proof of address dated within the last three months. Please come to the Main Library Service Desk.
Students or staff from participating institutions can join us through the SCONUL Access scheme. Application is made on-line and approved by your home institution. On receipt of your confirmation email please come to the Main Library Service Desk with your ID card from your home institution.
Band A, B and C members: can borrow 6 items but no access to online resources.
Band R: is reference only. Undergraduate students from the Universities of Abertay and Dundee are eligible to borrow 6 items under the terms of a local reciprocal agreement with those institutions.
Senior pupils from local schools are eligible to join the Library. Membership is managed through your school.
This will allow you to borrow 6 books, however there is no access to online resources. We do not charge for this access.
