Installing updates on your computer

On a regular basis software vendors release updates to applications such as critical or security updates to ensure they are protected against the latest exploits or vulnerabilities.

Updates are also released to enhance software functionality. It is recommended that these updates are regularly applied to both your operating system (e.g. Windows or Mac OS) and applications (Microsoft Office, Adobe, etc).

Often you are alerted to available updates by an onscreen notification. It is recommended that these are downloaded and applied as soon as possible. If in doubt contact the IT Service desk or your normal IT support contact.

Anti-virus software should also be kept updated to the latest available version. Updates are normally released by software vendors on a daily basis or even more frequently whenever a new virus or malware signature is discovered.

All machines supplied by IT services are set to auto update. However user intervention is often required to either restart the machine or to follow onscreen prompts to accept the updates or changes.

Should you have any queries regarding installing updates on your computer please contact the IT Service Desk.
