Computer key labelled support

Learning opportunities are available through CAPOD to enable you to develop your IT skills, for personal development and to help you work and study more effectively. The current standard training programmes have been developed primarily for the main desktop productivity software supported by IT Services, Microsoft Office for Windows. Training is delivered through instructor-led courses, online materials and individual sessions.

Training is also available for the Adobe digital media software, Photoshop and Illustrator, and the type-setting software, LaTeX, with instructor-lead courses available each semester and bookable from the PDMS booking system.

View the full catalogue

We deliver a rolling series of IT training courses most months throughout the year as a subset of the full course catalogue, designed to improve your efficiency at using the software. The courses currently scheduled for delivery are available from the University’s online course booking system (PDMS). The list is regularly updated so should be checked for recent additions. These courses take place in PC classrooms and are limited to a relatively small number of places to ensure adequate support, so booking is essential. The courses will however be repeated at intervals throughout the session. Details and descriptions for the full list of training courses in the Microsoft Office Suite are available from the Microsoft Office Training Courses page.

Email

The email and calendaring system for staff and new students since 2015 is provided by Office 365. Microsoft training videos and tutorials for using the Outlook desktop client are available at the following links:

Those student accounts still hosted by the previous SaintMail service that do not opt to be migrated to Office 365 are still supported. Training guides for using SaintMail can be accessed on the SaintMail How To Guides page. For information on migration to Office 365 contact the IT Service Desk

MS Office Online Resources

The university subscribes to the Microsoft IT Academy (recently rebranded by Microsoft, the Imagine Academy). The Academy membership gives access to Microsoft E-Learning courses covering the full Office suite of programs at various levels as well as many other topics (programming, Office 365 apps, etc). These multimedia courses allow flexibility to work on the material when you have time as they are stored in your online account. Further details about the range of courses available and how to access them can be found on the Microsoft IT Academy page.

The University IT Services support unit have downloadable training materials from Watsonia Publishing for self-study on a variety of other software packages (e.g web authoring, etc). The link to the IT Training materials from Watsonia is available on the External courses and training materials page (when you click on the Watsonia link you will need to accept the copyright undertaking before access is granted).
