Setup your Email to connect to Office 365

Microsoft Office 365 supports a lot of different Email clients.

Outlook 2013

How to setup Office 365 email using Outlook 2013

  1. Open Outlook 2013.
  2. If the Microsoft Outlook 2013 Startup wizard displays automatically:
  3. On the first page of the wizard, click Next.
  4. On the E-mail Accounts page of the wizard, click Next again to access the Add Account screen.
  5. If the Microsoft Outlook 2013 Startup wizard doesn’t appear:
  6. On the Outlook 2013 toolbar, click the File tab.
  7. Above the Account Settings button, click Add Account.
  8. On the Auto Account Setup page, ensure that Email Account is selected and then enter the following information:
  9. In the Your Name field, enter your name as you want it to appear on your emails.
  10. In the E-mail Address field, enter your St Andrews University email address (userID@st-andrews.ac.uk).
  11. In the Password field, enter your password. Re-enter the password in the Retype Password field.
  12. Click Next.
  13. Wait for Outlook to find your server. This could take a few minutes.
  14. If auto configure does not work enter outlook.office365.com in the server field.
  15. Click Finish once Outlook has completed configuring your Office 365 account.

Outlook 2011 for Mac

How to setup Office 365 email using Outlook 2011 for Mac

  1. Launch Outlook 2011 (Mac).
  2. From the Tools menu, select Accounts.
  3. On the Add an Account screen, click Exchange Account.
  4. If you do not see the Exchange Account option, click the “+” symbol in the lower left-hand corner to open the pull-down menu. Choose Exchange from this pull-down menu.
  5. On the Enter your Exchange account information screen, enter the following information:
  6. In the E-mail address field, enter your St Andrews University email address (userID@st-andrews.ac.uk).
  7. From the Method pull-down menu, choose User Name and Password.
  8. In the User name field, enter your St Andrews University email address (userID@st-andrews.ac.uk).
  9. In the Password field, enter your password.
  10. Check the box next to Configure Automatically.
  11. If auto configure doesn't not work enter outlook.office365.com in the server field.
  12. Click Add Account to finish configuring your account.

Apple Mail

How to setup Office 365 email using Apple Mail

  1. In the top-left corner of your screen, select the Apple icon, then select System Preferences.
  2. Select Mail, Contact & Calendars.
  3. Select the Microsoft Exchange button in the right-hand column.
  4. Enter your Name, email address and your University password.
  5. If AutoDiscover does not configure the settings for you then enter Server; outlook.office365.com
  6. An Account Summary window will show. Verify that your information is correct, then click Continue.
  7. Tick all the boxes the synchronise Mail, Contacts, Calendar and Notes.

IMAP, POP and SMTP settings

How to setup your email client using IMAP, POP and SMTP.

When entering username always use userID@st-andrews.ac.uk

  • IMAP
    Server: outlook.office365.com
    Port: 993
    Connection security: SSL/TLS

  • POP
    Server: outlook.office365.com
    Port: 995
    Connection security: SSL/TLS

Connection details for your email client's outgoing mail server are as follows:

  • SMTP
    Server: mailhost.st-andrews.ac.uk
    Port: 587
    Connection security: STARTTLS
