How to install Microsoft Office on various devices

You are permitted to install the latest Microsoft Office suite on up to 5 devices; smartphones, tablets and personally owned computers whilst you are a student or employee of the University St Andrews.

IMPORTANT: please do not download any of your five free versions on University owned computers. University owned computers are covered by a separate license agreement.

Microsoft Windows

How to install Office on a Microsoft Windows PC or laptop

  1. Sign in to Office 365 here using userID@st-andrews.ac.uk and your University password.
  2. Click on the link to Install on a PC or Mac
  3. On the Office page, select the Language (English (United States) and then press Install
  4. This will download an installation file, at the bottom of the screen press Run.
  5. Follow the prompts and accept the license agreement.
  6. Office is fully installed when you see the All Done button.

 


Apple Mac

How to install Office on an Apple Mac computer.

  1. Sign in to Office 365 here using userID@st-andrews.ac.uk and your University password.
  2. Select a Language then click on Install button. This will download Office for Mac.
  3. After the disk image file finishes downloading, select the .dmg file to open the Office installer.
  4. Accept the license agreement and enter your Mac password to start installing.
  5. On the Welcome to Office mac screen, select Sign in to an existing Office 365 subscription, then sign in using userID@st-andrews.ac.uk and your University password.
  6. Office will now be installed on your Mac.

Apple iPhone or iPad

How to install office on an Apple iPad or iPhone.

You can install an Office apps on your iPad or iPhone, you must install Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote individually as they are not available in a suite.

  1. Open the Apple App Store and search for Microsoft Office.
  2. Select any of the official Microsoft Corporation office apps to install.
  3. Swipe through the introduction, and press Sign in.
  4. At the Sign in page, type your St Andrews email address (userID@st-andrews.ac.uk)  and press Next.
  5. Type your University password and press Sign in.

Android smartphone or tablet

How to install Office on an Android smartphone or tablet.

You can install Office Mobile for Android OS 4.0 or later. 

  1. Open Google Play Store and search for Microsoft Office.
  2. Select the Microsoft Office Mobile app and Install.
  3. Swipe through the introduction, and then tap Get Started.
  4. At the Sign in page, type your St Andrews email address (userID@st-andrews.ac.uk)  and press Next.
  5. Type your University password and press Sign in.
