Changing your password

Please be aware that when you change your password you will have to update it in any other University systems and services you use including in any places where it is cached.

Here are some examples of University systems that you will have to update if you have saved your University account password when you previously used them:

  • Access to shared file space (shared drives)
  • Apple iPhone/iPad (eduroam profile must be removed then reinstalled)
  • Aptos
  • Eduroam
  • eVision
  • MMS
  • Moodle
  • SITS
  • UniPrint
    • Mac - delete the uniprint entry in the Keychain
    • PC - manually edit the UniPrint entry in Control Panel > Credential Manager
  • VPN

Please read the advice in our notes on strong passwords before changing your password.

You will need to enter:

  • your username
  • your current password
  • a new password (see our notes on strong passwords for help in choosing a password)
  • the same password a second time (to ensure that you have not made any mistakes when typing your password)

N.B. Some symbols such as : (colon), | (pipe), £ (pound sterling), forward slash (/), backslash (\), square brackets ([]), exclamation mark (!) and @ (at) will limit your ability to use certain resources.


  • eVision sometimes has problems with passwords containing : (colon) and | (pipe).
  • Some Oracle forms will not work if you have the @ (at) symbol in your password.
  • Cisco VPN does not accept £ (pound sterling), but it will accept # (number sign, also known as hash or, in the US, pound sign) or $ (dollar).
  • Using a \ (back slash), / (forward slash), or [] (square brackets) can stop you accessing shared drives.
  • ' (single quotation mark) may not be accepted by uniface.

When will the change take effect?

  • For logging in to the classroom machines the change will take effect immediately
  • For accessing password-protected University web pages and services which use single sign-on (SSO) the change will take effect immediately
  • For logging in to Unix systems there will be a delay of at least 30 minutes before the change takes effect

1. Enter your username (do not include and your current password

2. Set a new password

Your password:

  • MUST have a minimum of 8 characters
  • MUST include at least one number (0 - 9)
  • MUST include at least one non-alphanumeric character (one that is not a letter or a number)
  • Should include a mixture of upper and lower case letters.
