IT Apprenticeships

We partner with QA training to offer award-winning IT Apprenticeships to young adults interested in a career in IT. Since 2012, eighteen apprentices have joined our team and learned from highly experienced professionals.

What does the IT apprenticeship offer?

  • a 2 year fixed term contract
  • an 'earn as you learn' experience
  • development and training opportunities
  • mentors to guide you through your apprenticeship
  • learning on the job

We support our IT apprentices by putting them through their paces in mock interview scenarios, ask them to carry out presentations to build their confidence in public speaking and provide guidance with job applications and CVs.

Why choose an IT apprenticeship at the University of St Andrews?

  • Multi award-winning scheme
  • 100% employment success rate – all our apprentices so far have secured
full-time jobs at the end of their contract
  • Earn while you learn from experienced IT professionals
  • Opportunities to follow your desired IT career path

Our apprentices are also offered weekly placements in other departments or IT organisations to expand their skills and experience. By the end of the 2-year contract, they have an enviable CV ready to apply for the jobs they wish to pursue.

We created a short film during Scottish Apprenticeship Week 2017, to share some of the stories, thoughts and experiences of our current and former IT Apprentices. You can view it at https://vimeo.com/209532266

Our scheme is recognised by the IT industry. Our achievements so far are:

  • 100% employment success rate
  • Microsoft Apprentice Employer of the Year 2016
  • Microsoft Apprentice of the Year 2014 — Sam Foster
  • Microsoft Apprentice of the Year 2016 finalist — Greg Jennings
  • UCISA Award for Excellence 2016 for our IT apprenticeships scheme
  • SDS Public Sector Employer of the Year 2015 finalist
