Undergraduate credit-bearing modules
ELT offers three undergraduate modules for students of the University:
- English as a Foreign Language
- Academic English
- Foundations of Language
English as a Foreign Language A and B
The English as a Foreign Language modules are designed to improve the communicative English skills of students whose first language is not English. Module A focuses on using functional languages associated with everyday situations as a means to expand your vocabulary and and increase your accuracy. Module B focuses on the use of language in the media, literature and in film. These modules are only available to speakers of English as an additional language.

Academic English 1 and 2
Both Academic English 1 and Academic English 2 focus on improving your understanding and command of formal academic discourse, including the use of academic English in presentations and seminar discussions. These modules are only available to speakers of English as an additional language.

Foundations of Language 1 and 2
Foundations of Language 1 and Foundations of Language 2 introduce students to the study of linguistics and provide an overview of how language works, in particular English. These modules are open to both native speakers and speakers of English as an additional language.

Academic English Service (AES)
Undergraduate and postgraduate students at the University who use English as a second or additional language, can join the AES service to gain access to online resources, tutorials and workshops, to develop their English language skills. Schools looking to organise language development sessions for their students can email firstname.lastname@example.org to request a meeting.
