Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs)

These collaborative research projects are part of Europe's leading programme to help businesses improve competitiveness and productivity through knowledge, technology and skills that reside within the UK knowledge base. Partnership funding is provided by the Economic & Social Research Council and the Technology Strategy Board.

Knowledge Transfer diagramA KTP is a three-way project between a Graduate, an industry Partner and ICC

The Graduate

  • is hired by ICC as a Research Associate to work full-time on the industry partner's premises, transferring knowledge between ICC and the partner organisation
  • is a recent graduate from a relevant field; on-the-job training will lead to the Diploma in Management and Leadership, and work toward a higher degree often is possible
  • details of current Associate positions available

The Partner organisation or business:

  • works with ICC to devise a project lasting 10 weeks to two years
  • provides work space and a mentor for the Associate. Many host organisations choose to hire the Associate after the project ends
  • contributes financially to the project (for SMEs: approx £4000 for a 10-week project, up to £20,000 per year for a 2-year project; large enterprises pay approx £6000 for a 10-week project, up to £40,000 per year for a 2-year project). (VAT, where applicable, is extra)

  • works with the Industry Partner to design the project and recruit the Research Associate
  • hires and co-supervises the Associate, ensuring effective transfer of knowledge
