Text source
John Strachan was commissioned to raise a company for the Dutch army in 1578. In 1594, either this or another John Strachan replaced Alexander Melville as a captain. He was originally garrisoned in Breda and appeared in the States of War for 1595-1598. Strachan was killed, along with most of his company at Nieuwpoort in 1600, and he left behind a widow who received a pension.
