Alexander Campbell was a Scottish captain in Dutch service in the 1570s. He was commissioned by the Privy Council of Scotland on 8 June 1573 to raise 300 men for the Sweden, but likely transferred to Prince of Orange’s service, embarking by 1 August 1573. He appears in the pay-lists of Holland for 1573-1574. He was commissioned again on 23 September 1577 and reappears in the paylists for 1575-1577. He was still serving by 1579, when he appeared in a list of Scottish officers who took the States’ obligation in March. Campbell and his wife appear to have been killed by armed peasants in Flanders in February 1579.
