Sir Archibald Douglas was an officer in the Scots-Dutch Brigade between 1622-1639. He assumed the captaincy and command of Colonel Francis Henderson's [SSNE 8024] company in 1622 when Henderson took over the "Compagnie Coronelle" previously commanded by his brother Robert [SSNE 4975], who was now deceased. By 1630 Douglas was garrisoned in s'-Hertogenbosch. On 17 February 1631 he married Geertruyd Walsdorffer, a young woman from Leeuwarden and then living in Gorcum. Douglas was promoted to sergeant-major by 31 October 1634 and rose to the rank of lieutenant-colonel by 7 July 1638. Douglas became colonel of the regiment upon the death of Sir David Balfour on 8 March 1639. However, Douglas was dead by 6 September 1639. Command of his company fell to John Riddell by 16 December 1639 and command of the regiment was assumed by John Kirkpatrick. In 1640, his widow petitioned for an annual pension, but the decision was deferred to the Council of State and the outcome is yet unknown.
