JANSZ, WILLEM [SSNE 8026]
Text source
William Johnson was a (or multiple) Scot(s) living in the Dutch Republic in 1628. The name William Johnson appears in two separate wills and testaments between January and April 1628, in which another Scot, John Dickson [SSNE 8025] named him his heir before departing on the Dordrecht for the West Indies. In the other testament, one Jacques Watsen (possibly another Scot) and Joris Bel, named Johnson their heirs before departing on the Swarte Ruyter (captained by Claes Cornelisz 't Melckmeisje), again for the West Indies. His connection with Scots travelling to the West Indies is unclear, and there is no indication of what his occupation was. In the later will Johnson is indicated as living on the Sint Jorissteeg in Leiden.
