BRUCK, MATTHEW [SSNE 7826]
Text sourceMatthew Brook/Bruck was an English entertainer who served in Duke Karl (later Karl IX of Sweden) Vasa's employment at his court at Nykoping from 1591-2. The Duke hired a band of English musicians and players (6 trumpeters and 6 'instrumentalists' for his impending nuptials to Princess Christine of Holstein. His first payment was for 13 daler in 1591. By the end of his contract Brook was paid 110 daler 29 ore and 16pr, just like four other instrumentalists.
