Text source

Sigfrid Engelsman was possibly an Englishman given his surname, and appears to have been in Swedish service. He commanded a Swedish privateering expedition into the North Sea to take Danish ships as prize that left from Varberg in March 1568. Engelsman’s mission was a repeat of a similar one that had left the west coast of Sweden the previous year. They followed in the wake of an expedition to England and Holland in order to procure and recruit soldiers for Swedish service under the command of Captain Peder Larsson. The outcome of Engelsman’s expedition is unknown and was the last of its type for some years thereafter. It is unknown whether Engelsman was involved in Swedish recruitment in England or whether he himself was one of the recruited.
