Andrew/Anders Gerner was the son of Albert/Albrecht Gerner [SSNE 7695]and his wife Maria Watson/Vadson, both of Scottish descent. He was born on 18 November 1632 in Stockholm. He gained his education in Uppsala, Konigsberg and other foreign universities, returning to Sweden in 1651. That year, riksmarskalk Magnus de la Gardie sent Andrew to Vienna to the Swedish emissary there, Mattias Bjornklou, and Andrew remained there for well over 2 years. On his return to Sweden he was employed to tutor de la Gardie's son, Gustaf Adolf de la Gardie, and departed on a lengthy foreign journey which only brought him back to Sweden in late 1665. In 1669 he married Elizabeth Pfeiff, the daughter of Bishop of Reval Dr Johan Pfeiff, and widow of royal secretary Johan Eberb. Schantz. Andrew was appointed first secretary of the protocol for the senior Chancellery. He was appointed politieborgmastare of Stockholm in 1671. He was elected as chairman/spokesman for the burgess estate in the 1672 Riksdag. Andrew Gerner was ennobled in 1676. His son, Andrew was born one or two years before he died on 23 February 1683 as a result of a poorly implemented blood-letting.
