After the death of his cousin, Alexander Erskine [SSNE 1508], Archibald Erskine travelled to Hamburg and the Swedish duchy of Bremen in order to deal with Alexander's inheritance. On 30 December 1657 he reported to the Swedish secretary Peter Julius Coyet that he expected problems with Erskine's widow Lucia Kristina von Wartensleben concerning certain accounts and expenses. These were to be dealt with by the chancery at Stade. Archibald Erskine was employed in Swedish service but it remains unclear in which capacity.
