Henry Maister was the 7th son of Henry and Ann Maister. He was born in 1674 and baptised in Hull. By the age of 25 he was already a prominent Factor in Gothenburg. He was amongst the most significant of English merchants in Gothenburg until the 1730s, and also held the post of Treasurer of the Poor Box, a charity for British citizens.
