Text source

Helena Russell was the daughter of the Scottish merchant in Rotterdam, Andrew Russell [SSNE 143]. She married John Hamilton [SSNE 7168] who was a merchant in Campvere in the Dutch Republic. In October 1693 she had showed kindness to the newly released skipper who had been in captivity, Robert Jaffray [SSNE 7160]. Jaffray wrote to Russell thanking him for the favours extended to him by his family, especially Mr Hamilton and his kind lady. He thereafter undertook to ship a box belonging to Madam Hamilton at the earliest opportunity from Britain to the Dutch Republic
