Text source
James Halliday was a Scotsman settled and working in Sweden. He was a brewer who in 1676 was authorised to brew a specific quantity of malt. He is also noted as a wine-trader. He married Martha Du Val (Petersdotter) on 29 August 1676 according to the records of the German congregation in Stockholm. As his wife remarried in April 1681, James must have died before then.
